Once upon a time in Tennessee

There was a town...

There was a circus...

And there was an elephant.

WANTED: a large and diverse cast to perform George Brant’s Award winning drama. This heart-stoppingly dramatic, highly theatrical contemporary play tells the true story of Mary the Elephant, the circus that loved her, and a small town’s thirst for entertainment and revenge.

Who: a wide range of actors and/or circus performers, aged 16+. All roles can be played by actors of any gender, age, and ethnicity unless otherwise specified.

RINGMASTER – obsessed with the bottom line

TRAINER – loves their work

BALLET GIRL – a showgirl in control

TOUR MANAGER – bit of a bully

STRONGMAN – a proud muscleman from Europe’s far-off shores

CLOWN – a comedian with an inferiority complex

DRUMMER – keeps the beat

HUNGRY TOWNSPERSON – African descent, a steel-trap memory

MARSHAL – keeps the peace

MUDDY TOWNSPERSON – a haunted widow

PREACHER – doggedly hopeful

STEAM SHOVEL OPERATOR – looking for escape

YOUNG TOWNSPERSON –excitable dreamer

GUITARIST/HARMONICA PLAYER – sets the rhythm

ENGINEER – confident Time is on their side

 

Auditions: Sunday December 18, 1-4 and Tuesday December 20, 7-10 at Dartmouth Players Theatre, 33 Crichton Ave. No appointments necessary, readings provided. Rehearsals will begin in early January.

Shows: March 30 – April 15, 2017.
